Reality Conflicts with Obama’s Gun Control “Mandate”

Obama BidenPresident Obama has a nasty habit of falsely believing that since he was elected by the people, the people, therefore, are supportive of whatever the hell he wants to do. He’s said raising taxes is his “mandate” from the people. Now, he’s boldly claiming that Americans agree on his positions on gun control.

There’s only one problem: Americans obviously don’t.

If he would step out of his bubble once in awhile, instead of only discussing issues with “friendly” news sources or the folks at The View, he might be shocked to find that in many parts of America, he’s not the most popular figure. Furthermore, his stances on gun control are not looked up with delight by those “bitter” individuals who “cling to guns and religion.”

At a press conference on Tuesday, as he appointed “Slow” Joe Biden as the head of his task force against gun violence, he mentioned,

“The good news is there’s already a growing consensus for us to build from.  A majority of Americans support banning the sale of military-style assault weapons.  A majority of Americans support banning the sale of high-capacity ammunition clips.  A majority of Americans support laws requiring background checks before all gun purchases, so that criminals can’t take advantage of legal loopholes to buy a gun from somebody who won’t take the responsibility of doing a background check at all.”

However, the majority of Americans advocate better attention paid to mental health and the arming of citizens as better solutions to gun violence. Just sayin’ it don’t make it so, Barry.

He went on:

“Look, like the majority of Americans, I believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms.  This country has a strong tradition of gun ownership that’s been handed down from generation to generation.  Obviously across the country there are regional differences.  There are differences between how people feel in urban areas and rural areas.  And the fact is the vast majority of gun owners in America are responsible — they buy their guns legally and they use them safely, whether for hunting or sport shooting, collection or protection.”

I love it when liberals try to find common ground by saying, “I believe in the right to bear arms. But…” There is no “but…”! It’s like saying, “I believe in the freedom of speech… So long as it is run by me and approved beforehand.”

The words, “Shall not be infringed,” mean exactly that. We cannot have a discussion where liberal leaders look to cherry-pick what part of the Second Amendment they’re okay with. “I’m okay with the right to bear arms, but only the ones that I feel are okay.”

On a side note: It’s odd that liberals started looking at the Second Amendment as an individual right at about the same time as the Supreme Court said it was.

Obama continued,

“But you know what, I am also betting that the majority — the vast majority — of responsible, law-abiding gun owners would be some of the first to say that we should be able to keep an irresponsible, law-breaking few from buying a weapon of war.  I’m willing to bet that they don’t think that using a gun and using common sense are incompatible ideas — that an unbalanced man shouldn’t be able to get his hands on a military-style assault rifle so easily; that in this age of technology, we should be able to check someone’s criminal records before he or she can check out at a gun show; that if we work harder to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people, there would be fewer atrocities like the one in Newtown — or any of the lesser-known tragedies that visit small towns and big cities all across America every day.”

Wrong again. While Obama feeds his own delusion that everyone agrees with him, America has been arming itself. Guns are flying off the shelves at a record pace- yes, even those “scary military-style rifles”- and as America is embroiled in discussion of possible looming gun control measures, the National Rifle Association has seen new member enrollment in excess of 8,000 per day, every day since the shooting in Sandy Hook.

So, if I were Obama, I would start looking for an exit strategy on this “gun control mandate” he says exists. And I think appointing the halfwit vice president to a do-nothing task force might just be exactly that.
